Possibly the idea that your government actively hates you and wants you either dead or enslaved.

Possibly the idea that your government officials and celebrities regularly traffic and rape children.

10-20 years ago everyone thought either of those possibilities absurd and unthinkable. I imagine finding out it’s real would put many people in the hospital, metaphorically speaking.
