This is the main hwy thru Canada West to East. Closed. 46000 hectares in the Shuswap Lake resort area. Many homes and businesses lost. Firefighters left Friday to "regroup" in the middle of this firestorm and the local who have stayed are now threatened with arrest, food and water blocked, (unless a permit is received lolol) they need diesel, able and knowledgable manpower and prayers.
From Janice Ban-man (local)
"Yesterday's very stern threat not to go in and save your own property on TV from govt was disturbing. They said let the professionals do it, your going to hamper the efforts .. well in Scotch Creek they left town and were ready to let it burn over 300,000,000. In infrastructure... They say the back burn saved thousands of homes ?? We say it contributed to it. July 12 when the Adams lake fire started was the time Govt should have jumped on it."

Brad Colonna "I’m no expert but that photo clearly shows the back burn went the other way! Who’s going to be responsible for approving that ignition now that it has caused millions of dollars in damage? That’s the question that needs to be answered."

Locals are asking for assistance to "get the word out"
Wow, thanks for the update…. Was Lee Creek hit that hard?? Looks like the area was spared a little. Scotch Creek and Celista are unrecognizable. A buddy of mine took a trip up the shoreline in his boat and sent me a video. My boyhood home is still standing but many houses in the vicinity are destroyed. Our family doesn’t own it anymore but I’d hate to see it burn. I’ve seen lots of people complaining about the “authorities” interfering with local people trying to protect their property…. I really wouldn’t expect anything less.
This has been a tough fire season but the amount of devastation has been unprecedented. I think this is just another symptom of the failure of all our public institutions in Canada. Health care has failed, you can’t get a passport, can’t get a gun licence, can’t get through to CRA by telephone and now they can’t put out small brush fires…. Everything the government is responsible for has gone to shit.

LMAO...Mr. Tucker should have stayed. He prolly would have saved his home.
The BCWS left Friday when the fire went thru their camp at Squilax. They came back Monday pm/Tuesday after the firestorm was over. If the community hadn't stayed to fight so much more would have been lost. I know Bryan (log houses) lost the business but "the electric crew" were up to his house Monday evening due to hotspot and cleared and supressed till 1am. House is safe. Lee Creek Drive at the top had some loss, but seems to have escaped the brunt which went thru Scotch Creek and on to Celista. Whisper Mountain did okay. It seems before the NE wind came in that night, they did a back burn. That was not right above Lee Creek but more toward the east. I think that was the difference. They waited until it was too late to backburn in my opinion. The backburn blew into the community. A MESS. But what do I know, I don't have a Degree in fire science so you know........Trust the Science and all. haha
