This happened in 1960's London where a "performance artist" called Otto Muel did this. The poet Heathcote Williams was in the audience and was so incensed he stormed the stage and tried to stop it but got badly beaten by Meul's fellow "artists"

Meul finished up in the jungles of Ecuador running a "free love" commune.
