UK airspace has shut down following a huge air traffic control system failure which has halted flights in and out for 'at least 12 hours'.

I'm visiting the US next week and I was unaware that I will be flying on Labor Day. It is a public holiday which we don't have. Is this a big thing for Americans, can I expect exceptionally busy?

Eh you'll get some increased traffic driving, depending on what direction you're heading (away from cities Friday, towards cities sun/mon). Maybe some stores/restaurants closed that would otherwise be open.

Not really that big of a deal.
