To be clear, and I feel like this is a very important bit of clarification, the law is to prevent employers, like Walmart, from having a policy that requires it’s employees to stop or engage with shoplifters. It does NOT prevent the owner from doing something (e.g small mom and pop shops), nor does it prevent trained security guards from conducting their duties. This is being framed as if it isn’t beneficial to the low-wage employee, but it is actually kind of a good thing. They’re trying to stoke your emotions, don’t play into their nonsense.
