That was a rather coarse response on my part. Let's have a discussion instead. Are we talking about single parents now? People living beyond their means. People who basically need a baby sitter not a school?
Much of these changes may be difficult or hard for some, but how much is your kid worth. These things are not easy by any means but I'm so sick of hearing the excuses. In the US you can 'change your stars' so to speak if you put in the effort and deal.
Home school communities are gaining popularity for a reason. Create one if you need to. People in these situations usually know others in the same boat, just by the nature of the jobs they work. Team up with your peers. Charter schools are free in many areas of the states. Work at one, move to a place where you can get a job at one and your kids can go to at the same time. Took a huge paycut for this very reason, after homeschooling for 3 years, after realizing my kids were only getting 1 to 2 hours of actual instruction in public, I mean government schools. I was lucky enough that my parents taught me these values, but anyone CAN do it, no excuses. Do something about your situation for your child AND yourself. Letting someone else raise your kid is never the answer.
Why are you working 3 jobs? Anyone working three jobs is working hard enough to do these things already.
Move, live in a trailer somewhere, give up things you think you need, get a beater car, get a dirt cheap cell phone plan, give up the internet and cable tv subs. Grind it out. I speak from experience and current situation and I never had to take a handout, although welfare to the people actually TRYING can be a life changing thing in the right direction. What, can't move to bumfuck somehwere USA and live dirt poor while you get a leg up? Why not? Do it for your children, teach them LIFE.
You're one of my favorite contributors so I'm not 'coming at you', I'm just tired of the excuses. Sure there are some that truly can't, but that is such a small number were talking about.
...not everyone has the luxury of that option...
Horse shit. Charter schools, home school your kids in the evening after work, GET THEM OUT OF GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS. If you love them anyway.
...what do you propose to someone who is working 3 jobs?

...you are dealing with a society that has been dumbed down for two maybe three generations...
...the majority of Americans cannot think in a logical manner...
...your points are all valid, sadly they take resourcefulness, courage and determination to implement...
...three traits sadly lacking in our population today...
...the "small number we're talking about" are not the people who are emotionally, spiritually and/or physically downtrodden...
...it is the portion of the population who aren't...
