IDK, seems right to me. I compare it to myself when was a kid, big horse kicked at my pony and busted my leg, I couldn't hold on and so slipped, pushed myself off as the pony kept barreling down the driveway and into a main street. When family rushed down to me, my only thought was that I voiced was, "Hurry catch Star!" knowing what she was heading into. My concern was the pony first, my injuries were not even a consideration to me. I imagine a plane in the same situation and I as the pilot, same gut reaction but, with much bigger consequences to where that plane may crash at. As far as who he called he stated that he could not see his body so probably why he had the homeowner dial 911 instead of giving the civilian a top clearance, military contact number. IDK, just my initial thoughts on the matter.
