The EPA was created after the Cuyahoga River caught on fire. Yea, it is that river through what my friend use to refer to as the "Mistake-on-the-Lake" in Ohio. At the time, alarm bells were sounding off when this happened and it seemed to be a good idea to create a department focused on the environment. I mean, who has ever heard of a river catching on fire..... that is, outside of Styx and Hell itself? Originally, the EPA was suppose to be an advisory committee. However, all government agencies grow legs, power drunk, and become weaponized.
