Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced on Sunday the U.S. is moving a carrier group to the eastern Mediterranean Sea, in addition to other moves, in response to the attack on Israel by Hamas this weekend.
The Ford carrier group is already in the Med, having recently conducted exercises off the coast of Italy, according to a statement by the Navy issued last Thursday .

Erm, For a carrier group to gain access to the Strait of Hormuz means going through the Suez canal, through the Red Sea, and around SA and Yemen. Eastern Med =/= Persian Gulf. Mind you, I'll grant that the SoH is a hot button, being a choke point between Oman and Iran.
Also, the USA has been staying away from the Eastern Med, because they did not want to be seen as trying to enter the Bosporus (Istanbul) in order to gain access to the Black Sea. So, them now openly cruising there because muh HAMAS and 600+ casualties, is kind of transparent, IMO.
So, yes, I do think there is some trap-setting going on. WW3-style.
