Part of the launches crossed into Israeli territory and presumably fell in open areas.

So, we have no evidence this was a deliberate or targeted attack on anyone or anything of actual value. We have no evidence that it was the Syrian armed forces who launched these mortars. In fact, we have no idea who launched them from a country which has been torn by civil war and in which half a dozen countries are using various militant groups to fight as proxies.

Let's not try and spin this into an escalation narrative. The surrounding Arab nations are not joining this fight. They are not attacking Israel. They are not touching off WW3.
