I hear ya. I have noticed a few generations of people do not know what it is like to work, save, then purchase what you really want/need. When we purchased our first home, interest rates were running around 15%. We were lucky and got a 10.9% interest rate being a first time home buyer. All we did was work, eat at home, pay off all bills and save for a down payment on a small home (under 1200 square feet). When we finally got the keys to the home, we splurged and bought a small dining room table ($144). We used a couple of twin mattresses for a couch. We saved and saved for each piece of furniture etc we wanted. Now, we have watched people purchase huge homes and then completely furnish them like a model home with a new vehicle or two in the garage and doesn't understand that borrowing on credit means you need to pay it back. I am almost at the age to think about getting SS. I don't know in a month or so if I will register to get it now because it is so low. I worker and paid into the system. Illegals here are getting treated so great while every day Americans who follow the laws (illegals break a federal law daily by staying here).
Now you're speaking my language. 100pct agree. Lol I had to smile about your couch. My first end tables were cardboard drums that I covered with contact paper. My dining table was from my grandma. One of those baked enamel ones that sell as antiques now. Couple of bedroom lamps from Monkeywards in the living room, a poaster for art and my waterbed from home. We started in a one bedroom apartment smaller than my current living room. And I'm still in that 1300 sq foot home we bought a year later. We didn't need much and thought we were in high cotton when I planted pansies near the concrete slab they called a patio. Good memories. BTW... If you make an appt with Soc Sec they can help you decide the best thing for your situation. Loved your comment. Thanks for the smile.
