As a Christian, I'm trying to reconcile how these are God's chosen people, and how we are supposed to support this. I had a heated conversation today with my mom, about how her pastor was saying that although Israel has done some questionable stuff, we are to support them. I think we've been deceived, and I really don't think God would approve of the actions of these people. Help me out here.
I am not saying that all Jews are bad. Just like there are bad Christians or claimed to be Christians are not. The same goes for Muslims or anything, but there seems to be a theme here. We just have to watch and see.
The idea that Christians are separate from God's supposed chosen people is erroneous, having no basis in the Scriptures, but rather derives from a misunderstanding of what or who constitutes Israel.
In short, the biblical nation of Israel lost their status as the nation through which God would work to bring others to Him, because of their rejection of His Son.
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. Matthew 21:42-43
Now, through Him, we who are members of His spiritual body, the Church, are the nation through which He works.
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10
We are His priests, and He is our high priest.
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. Hebrews 4:14
Likewise, through Him, we Christians are children of Abraham.
For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3:26-29
All who are in Him are part of the Israel of God.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. Galatians 6:15-16
The above are just a few verses that pertain to this topic. I encourage you and anyone else who reads this to spend time studying it more.
