The House elected Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) to be the 56th Speaker on Wednesday, capping off a chaotic three weeks that paralyzed the lower chamber in a stunning fashion.
In finally coalescing around a new leader, House Republicans hope that Johnson can lead them through a series of legislative and political landmines in the weeks and months to come.
Johnson, who was in his second term as vice chairman of the House Republican Conference, won the Speaker’s gavel in a 220-209 vote over Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), officially cementing himself as successor to former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) following McCarthy’s unprecedented removal earlier this month. The Hill
I don't like the title of this. There wasn't chaos. Chaos depicts uncertainty and lack of control over what was going on in the house. That wasn't what was going on.
This was a pitched fight between america-first and the swamp. It was a concerted effort to get either a RINO, or towards the end McCarthy back into the speaker's chair by the swamp, versus a candidate that supports American ideals and the voters that voted them in.
The swamp lost today. This was no more chaotic than a chess match.
I agree. The Hill is propaganda bs anymore. I just grabbed the title it ran. It wasn't chaos it was strategy. 🐸
