I have scuba dived on the other side of the Red Sea (Saudi Arabia) and it is incredible.
Actually, it's just us now, would you mind telling me a little bit about what that is like? The Egyptians are so lazy, it's almost impossible to get them up at, like, 7:00 a.m., and because Egypt is on the other side of the gulf, by noon, all the light is already practically gone. Where did you dive on the Saudi Arabia side? Please tell me everything
I dove in Yanbu (a little ways up from Jeddah) on two different trips so probably a total of about 12 dives. I lived in Dhahran so it was a group trip that the company my dad worked for set up so it was all timely and under control. The dives were beach entry so we’d get going early, basically head down to the water and just start diving. You belly paddle out a bit and then there was probably a 50 foot wall that just dropped off. I’m guessing it is similar to what you would see - beautiful corral, morays, and just the widest variety of fish imaginable. Of course there the afternoon dives were better from a lighting perspective.
I dove a bunch in the Persian Gulf. And the diving there was polar opposites to what you see in the Red Sea.
And the Saudi’s don’t do anything that resembles work, so you’d have some other nationality running things. Most of the folks helping with the diving, setting up, was Philipino, Indian, etc.
Sounds like Dubai. When I went there to train some people and install some devices it was the Indians working and the Brits managing. The "white robes" walked around the building for a few minutes and went home. I will say that when they were actually there they were great, and made it a point to come talk to me and thank me for what I was doing for them.
