Well I moved here in 96 and people were complaining that they were building a new airport and it was taking way too long. There was absolutely nothing wrong with Stapleton which was in downtown Denver. They ended up burying the existing structure and building a new one on top of it. From what I understand, there are tunnels beneath that lead to other tunnels in the state, and possibly around the country.
Not exactly right, because Denver annexed the land to the county of Denver and built it from scratch on what was farmland. the baggage system was in the tunnels and was a non starter boondoggle. Tried to be like what Amazon has in the warehouses. Way over budget and way over timeline. TBS the entire zone of the airport and approach has become commercialized to favor the travelers.
