The letter is likely a fake, but the circumstances were not. I was there from January 1991 to September 1991, and my brother from October 1990 to April 1991. He was a 19D Cavalry Scout, and I was a 95B Military Police.

I was doing customs duty for part of the time and I can assure you there was a shortage of aircraft. Most of the Airlines were crewed by volunteer crews of mostly veterans (pilots) and patriotic flight attendants. Many Airlines also volunteered planes for the cost of fuel only.

I will never forget how these people volunteered their time, regardless of the risk to themselves, to ferry troops home from the shithole sandbox.
