I used to take melatonin every single night to fall asleep.
Stopped taking it one night and couldn't sleep that night. Next night I was fine. 1.5 years seems a bit extreme.
It is because you're an adult who is fully developed. They are six years old and five years old, and their brains are not close to that yet.
Edit to add that their pineal glands are no longer producing melatonin on their own because they're still developing. That's why 1.5 years seems extreme, but it is the truth. So when we get the boys, we are experiencing bad withdrawal symptoms, but we refuse to take part in the drugging.
