I just inhaled every word of that phenomenal piece of work. Thank you for posting it! My favorite piece was toward the end of Ch 2: "Our very consciousness is surrounded on all sides by a mass media, and in this modern context, schooling becomes a technique of propaganda that functions through the use of knowledge, not in the service of any classical ideal."
I'm a former public school educator who knew enough to homeschool her own children. What I've discovered in the twenty years interim is that in order to own one's education, it is important to "break up" with all the ideals of modern education, which was designed through necessity to meet the demands of an ever-increasingly industrialized world. The curricula I chose as a home educator led me down a path of exploration on the classical model of education. As a society, we have lost entirely our understanding of the purpose of education. And our churches are doubly guilty for allowing their congregants to partake in the institutionalized systems of education founded with the intent to cause families to disremember their God-given directives to disciple their children. It is my firmly held belief that the first amendment, which outlines my right to religious freedom also contains within it my right to educate my child because my religion completely informs my worldview.

Here is one of many links to Dorothy Sayers' essay, The Lost Tools of Learning. If you are tired of looking back at how we have failed, take a few moments to look forward to how we can repair what we've allowed to happen. https://www.pccs.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/LostToolsOfLearning-DorothySayers.pdf
