I have noticed that issue with others, as well. I know people with university degrees who are well-read and keep up with the news. However, they just cling to the "facts" that make them feel good and are not capable of joining them together to make the complete picture.

They somehow lack the imagination or the confidence to link the facts together. I did once see a science paper that described how some people were happier fitting in with their peers than joining the dots for themselves. I regret never bookmarking it!
