No, I'm pretty sure it is dementia, but perhaps it's the demon possessing him that has it and not Joe himself.

Well, Joe has had his skull cracked open for brain tinkering at least twice that we know of. I think even the best neurosurgeons are still thr equivalent of bulls in china shops when working on brains.
