Did I hear some anon said suicide weekend is after the layoffs?
Probably biased ... ok, I am biased as hell. As an engineer who has worked R&D most of his life (old as dirt, best job ever now; making about half of what I made years ago but love my job). Here is what I observed.
Company hires H-1B Visa Engineer, for the same salary as a US citizen. But, no Social Security, as this is a non-citizen. Employer pays half your Social Security; you pay the other half. H1-B Visa holders don't pay. This is several thousand per person, per year.
Company plans on opening plant in India, years in advance. Probably with US Taxpayer money, because taxpayer money is often used in opposition to US citizen's best interests. So, by hiring a H1-B engineer from India, they get a tax incentive to train him in the US, and he has a very high paying job when he returns 'home', where once again he will compete against American workers. Our US companies are incentivized to screw us all over.
So, who do they layoff? US Employees cost more to keep on the pay role. Tax incentives for DEI and EEO by hiring minorities. Then open a manufacturing plant and close the US plant - all while making millions from tax incentives.
Meanwhile, engineers get tossed into the street. Why would anyone take Advanced Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and programming - when they are considered absolutely expendable? I can't recommend this to my grandkids, wish I could - but I see business managers with double engineers' salary. Engineers could do the financials (math), but the business managers could not do the engineering.
