Most countries, communist or capitalist went through a process by which small farms were forcibly incorporated into big farms or estates.
In Ireland it was called the plantation system, in Russia it was collectivisation of agriculture, in Scotland it was the Highland clearances, in England it was the enclosure of the common land. And in the US it was the dustbowl. In each example surplus populations were moved on, Irish to America, English to Australia, Scots to Canada, American small holders from the Mid West to California. US still has some small farmers left, same as England does, but mostly it is big agri-business. And just reminder - people cheered on the Dutch farmers until it turned out they were sponsored by big agriculture companies...
