When I was in Egypt I made friends with one of the top guides there. People think the pyramids are a tourist area, but in the past few decades it's actually a very tough, very rough place. The police keep the place safe for the tourists but often it's open season on each other. Anyway, my friend told me a story about how he got to be so tough, had such a reputation, that he ended up running a protection racket, but in reverse, where people DEMANDED to pay him because he could do things the police wouldn't. He basically ended up protecting the whole area around the pyramids. One day he noticed the the neighbourhood dogs would patrol with him. One day he saw someone who was a troublemaker, yelled a demand for him to come over and as the guy walked up "YEAH WHAT DO YOU WANT" all the dogs circled around him and just stared him down. Supported him. Apparently one of the crimes he would chew you out for was cruelty to animals. The dogs saw and his reputation even extended to the dogs, LOL
