I’ve been screaming this for the last decade, but it falls on deaf ears. We had a great, reliable, low-cost electric grid. But the Green push destroyed all of that by tugging at the heart-strings of liberals. They said, “oh look at the evil fossil fuels”, and proceeded to work through legislation and public pressure to villainize fossil fuels.
Utilities will make their money regardless, and I can’t blame them as most are investor owned, so they played along so as to not look like they were evil “Earth Killers”, knowing full well that they would still be able to recoup all their expenses from already installed capacity, AND earn money on all the new “green” energy being installed. I think once the full picture comes into view, we will all be shocked at the price tag and the decreased reliability of the system nationwide.
Add to that, that fossil fuels aren’t “going away” from our planet. They are picking up adoption in India, China, and other developing nations. Access to cheap fuel without competition from the US means lower energy costs for those countries, which puts them at a competitive advantage and further harms out economy and likely leads to further loss of industry to overseas competition. So essentially we are setting up a "no peeing" section in a public pool.
It is ridiculous, but i never see anyone able to articulate this to the public.
