The "history" part was the weakest link IMO. Same argument the CCP uses to claim land for itself "it's been part of China since ancient times, so we can forcefully take it back"

I think his point, when bringing up his 80's road trip experience, was that the people in Kiev still practice traditions of Hungary and Russia (basically they are Hungarian and Russian historically). I recall that the people of the Donbas region asked Putin to step in and save them.
