Nice article, but I think what's happening is much more than mere "populism." It goes way beyond that. We've seen populism rise in the past that gave support to people like George Wallace and Ross Perot...and where did their ambitions get them?
I sense that we are just one stupid oppressive law, or one stupid act by the Derp State, away from a total revolt. I think there is right now a great potential energy in a restless population, like a coiled spring, ready to go kinetic without warning.
To any students of history here, you should look into the last days of Romanian dictator Nicolai Ceausescu. It's one of the more gratifying lessons of the 20th Century.
Ceausescu's end was poetic justice. Respected his wife's insistence that she be with him at the end. Apparently stuff had to be screwed down when they went for state visits abroad - they would leave with bulging suitcases.
Poetic justice indeed. What captured my attention was how quickly, a matter of two days, that undid Ceausescu... from ranting dictator to being tied up in front of a firing squad. TWO DAYS!! Wow!
Thanks for your strong dose of optimism.
We must only step up the resistance as Sundance says with Solidarity https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2024/02/09/solidarity-2/
Yay! The peasants are revolting!
I'll say they are! BTW, didn't an old Mel Brooks film have that line in it?
