Was wondering if any anons know about the Philadelphia fire and records lost pertaining to ww2 troops.
Supposedly, my paternal grandfather parachuted into Okinawa before invasion. Seems insane, but not unbelievable.
His records were burnt and he died soon after to a drunk driver.
A year later, his brother died to a drunk driver.
Both liked to drink and talk.
Didn't just happen in PA, but also a fire in St. Louis, 1973. Wiped a bunch of records there. Made finding info on my Grandfather (WW1 era) and father-in-law (WW2 era) very difficult. They actually asked me to send them copies of any documents I find..

St. Louis resident here. Yeah I remember the Records Center fire out on Page Blvd. It was big. always wondered what info went up in smoke out there.
That pisses me off.
