Not talking about college, primary schools, some had got a bunch of glasses and info for the kids at the schools but, not they are sending them home with the kids so they can watch at home instead of school.
I don't know if they're canceling for "safety concerns," but the University of Southern Illinois is canceling classes that day so everyone can go out and witness the event, so they say on their website.
My family and I will be somewhere along the Talihina Drive in Southeastern Oklahoma to view the eclipse. There is something special happening, but I want to see it with my own eyes.

They may as well cancel, most people will watch the eclipse.
