Yes! I have two relatives who owned a total of three slaves. My black husband's relatives owned hundreds. Our simple view of history is often wrong.

Yep, there used to be a nice wikipedia article about his rise to success. He was born in Africa and got brought with his family to Barbados. But he was young so he got resold in America. He got free got a plantation and went to Barbados to free his family. He was into freeing people from the specific area of Africa he was from and had lots of lighter skinned black slaves. He was super against race mixing.
