After indentured servants debt payoff,they were able to purchase land and establish neighborhoods and businesses. Many of these free Whites moved out west. These options were not available to slaves as they and their offspring WERE OWNED and this was enforced by Southern legal systems. indentured servants weren't Owned they were merely in debt. That they were treated badly and poorly paid is another issue. Indentured servants had options and were not bound to their position as slaves were. Slavery is multi generational. Indentured servitude is not.
