In the divine comedy, Dante writes about the lowest circle of hell being reserved for traitors/treason. In that circle of hell, it is a lake of ice because that's the farthest in the universe you can get from God. The sinners in that circle of hell are eaten, digested, crapped out, and eaten again repeatedly by Satan for all eternity.
