I wouldn't wear glasses. Just look up w/ naked eye. Maybe they're afraid you may see Nibiru, Wormwood, or UFOs
I have done that 3 times now so far. Its only dangerous if you stare it for too long (its too seductive to avoid though, you have to control yourself). I got my eyes blurred for several minutes, but they were okay, no issues.
If there is a solar flare at the same time looking at the eclipse could blind you.... What if they know there is going to be one and are just preparing for a lot of blinded people....
You can view the eclipse directly without proper eye protection only when the Moon completely obscures the Sun's bright face – during the brief and spectacular period known as totality. (You'll know it's safe when you can no longer see any part of the Sun through eclipse glasses or a solar viewer.)
Yes, but most people won't be that careful. They wanna see the process. Just something to consider. We've been having a lot of crazy solar flares recently. I might watch it with a welding mask, lol.
A solar flare is an outburst of gas and plasma, not light. That is fucking retarded.
Before you call something "fucking retarded" do yourself a favor and spend 15 secs on a search engine so you don't make yourself look like an uneducated blowhard.
scientific american say:
"Key to space weather forecasting is the distinction between solar flares and CMEs. If a flare is the muzzle flash of a gunshot, the CME is the bullet. The x-rays and extreme ultraviolet radiation from flares reach Earth at near light-speed, and by the time we observe them, their effects—such as disruptions of high-frequency radio signals or satellite navigation systems—are already being felt."
in case you don't know its the "extreme ultraviolet" that would blind you.

It will burn your eyes.Do not look at the eclipse directly
