"An eclipse is merely a mathematical occurrence that can be predicted as one celestial body crosses the path of another as we view it on Earth." Maybe merely, but actually it is a physical occurrence whereby three celestial bodies align in such a way as to cause the transmission of light between the bodies to be blocked to some degree by the body between the two outer bodies. Neither of the three bodies are necessarily, or even likely to be, in the paths of the other two bodies. This mere physical occurrence can be, and is, predicted mathematically. That prediction, too, is an occurrence for sure.
