The earthquakes last time started 3 months after and lasted for almost a year. Trees can't even stay in the ground and almost all modern structures will fail. An 8 point earthquake is pretty devastating much less 10,000 or so earthquakes. No more roads or bridges could withstand that kind of constant bombardment
