18 hours with no power here, it sounds like a freight train is blowing down the canyon. 114 mph winds reported right up the road from me
Someone on one of the weather broadcasters fb page mentioned that they live by norad, and it is calmer there yesterday and today than it has been in days.. interesting to watch the forecasters scramble to explain why the wind is working like "fingers" rolling off the mountains like waves crashing on a shore
There’s also the Venturi effect where winds funneled through a narrow area in a canyon increase in velocity. Simple physics. We’re just east of a saddle that’s exposed to the divide and in a narrowing area of the canyon so at times have crazy gusting winds making the house shake.
It was cranking yesterday in the Golden foothills. I didn’t get the Kestrel out to clock them at our house but a mile away a NWS weather spotter showed 96 mph. Quite a few trees down around our fire district, fortunately no power lines sparking like they did in Larimer Cty.
Are you in the area Xcel shut down power or was there a line down killing your power?
