I call horseshit. not arguing that inflation isn't bananas, or that housing prices and rents haven't shot up with it. but, rents cannot be controlled/manipulated by a few large landlords. there are way too many smaller property owners that charge what they want just to get occupancy based upon their personal debt and circumstances. the disparity between the two can only be so great before people simply won't pay and will move elsewhere.
can this alleged scheme play some role in driving up prices a bit, sure, but the market will bear what it will bear
I'm in the business and in Boston. it's not happening in Boston to any noticeable extent so I'd ask where do you think it's happening if not in liberal hell hole Massachusetts?
even if it's a huge percentage that still leaves lots and lots of apartments not owned by the conglomerates which are free to rent for whatever they want
Went to Disneyland down in Anaheim a few weeks ago. Just for shits and giggles I thought I'd check craigslist and see what the rent is there and it was insane. Like I saw ads for a one bedroom apartment like 650 ft² no washer no dryer for like $8,000 bucks. The sad thing is that they wouldn't advertise this if they didn't think people would pay.
