Thomas Sowell… Poverty doesn’t cause crime… They are most often both products of a similar attitude🤔🤔

I grew up poor. I had no idea until I was a junior in college and applied for a student loan. I had to include a financial statement from my parents. They were substantially under the gov poverty line.
My father worked 15 hours a day, six days a week. So did my mother. We never went hungry. Our clothes were home made, including coats and my brother's dress shirts. I was a straight A student and we were all involved in student leadership, participation activities. We had piano lessons, dancing lessons and beautiful ball gowns for dances. No criminal anything, except for my bother who went dove hunting with two guys sitting on the car hood and the 15 year old driving, and hit the sheriff's car in the middle if nowhere. No charges, but those three were in big trouble at home.
Kudos to you And your parents… You were blessed to have had that example… The term Poor , I believe, is more accurately a description of Character rather than possessions… Sounds to me your family was Rich in the ways that really matter !!!
I know that. And I wasn't alone. I graduated in a class of 150. We produced drs, physicists, engineers, jet pilots, congressional assistants, farmers, businessmen, mothers, lots of teachers.
Being poor was no reason for shame or notice or for being unkempt or hungry and certainly not for dishonesty, which was roundly condemned in my community. My husband came from a DC family. His father worked. So did his mother. He actually went hungry. They literally had nothing. His parents went through their paychecks first 3 days of the month. Their monthly income was close to our yearly income.
We need to do anything we can to bring our country back to Standing on the Principles you were obviously raised with.. I’m Proud to stand with folks of your Character… Thanks for your reply as it gives me hope !!!
I think there are more of us, but most people simply don't analyze like we do. That's why memes are so powerful.
