Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Fun Fact:
Something that I learned at church tonight
The meaning of the word:
IRAN
The modern Persian name of Iran(ایران) derives from the 3rd-century Sasanian Middle Persian ērān (Pahlavi spelling: 𐭠𐭩𐭫𐭠𐭭, ʼyrʼn), where it initially meant "of the Aryans," and acquired a geographical connotation in the sense of "(lands inhabited by). 😂😂😂
Ar·y·an noun plural noun: Aryans 1. a member of a people speaking an Indo-European (or specifically Indo-Iranian) language, or of an ancient people thought to have spoken the hypothetical proto-Indo-European language. "the place of origin of the Aryans has been variously sought in Europe and Asia"
(in Nazi ideology) a white non-Jewish person, especially one of northern European origin or descent typically having blond hair and blue eyes and regarded as belonging to a supposedly superior racial group. "he looked the image of the ideal Aryan: tall, with Nordic blond hair"
Please correct me if I’m wrong, they’re saying that Iranians are Aryan? White supremacists?
Please make it make sense.
North Indians are Aryans too. Infact "Aryan" is a Sanskrit word which means "noble" or "honerable". Persians definitely the same blood line as well.
We actually have people in our family who escaped from Persia. They referred to themselves as Persian, not Iranian.
It was a woman, and her two children that escaped. The woman ended up marrying my uncle. My aunt and uncle have since passed, but the two daughters are my age now, and both are very conservative living in Northern California. They Know!!!!
I also have an aunt that’s from Trinidad. My uncle married her, and they had two kids. They live in Arizona now. She actually immigrated here legally. She’s so tired of all the BLM, and race baiting. She says “she’s not black” or African-American! 😂😂.
For the record. She has pretty dark skin too. It’s so funny! One of the kids turned out really dark, and the other one turned out almost completely White. They are both great kids.
I’m confused as well. I’ve read that Iran also derives from Aryan as well. I don’t think it means white supremist originally but I think later on the term got hijacked to mean white supremist. I’m actually fuzzy on the details how that got co~opted.
I was listening to a few podcasters and historians talking about ancient civilizations specifically the indo-European cultures ie babylonian or modern day Iraq/iran area and there is also the use of the swastika originally as a religious symbol and also got co-opted into “white supremist/nazi”.
Equally confused

This channel has a lot of videos on ancient cultures etc. I don’t remember if this one talks about the aryans specifically.
Oh thank you for this. I love this stuff. Can’t wait to watch. 👍
