Verizon and files.catbox
🧐 Research Wanted 🤔
With Verizon wireless service I can’t load any catbox files. The browsers all say the server can’t be found. On Wi-Fi the phone will load it. Does anyone else have this issue? Am I missing some setting or something?
Change your DNS server if you can, or use a VPN. There's an issue with catbox and a couple of the archive site's not working with their DNS servers.
A vpn helps you get around any internet blocks.
Normally you are correct, but more and more sites are actually blocking all known VPN IP ranges. Happens to me all the time. I have to use the SwitchyOmega extension because of it. Google, Reddit, AT&T, and - yes - catbox have all started blocking VPN traffic. That's just a small example I can actually share without giving up too much info.
I have a docker host that runs a vpn, an http proxy, and a socks5 proxy and have that set as my default in SwitchyOmega. For sites like Reddit or Google I have them set to go out directly instead of using the proxy. I also have catbox.moe in there, going directly out. Otherwise they won't even connect to the site. I actually have 3 well-known VPNs currently (until the contracts run out on 2 of them next year) and copied my docker containers but with the other VPN providers and tried all three on hosts like Google or Reddit. None of them allowed connection - only going out direct worked. It is a real pain in the ass.
Seriously though - if you haven't tried SwitchyOmega (works in chrome and mozilla browsers) you really should. A nice thing about it is you can export the rules you make and import them in another browser (so laptop, desktop, chrome, brave, firefox - etc.).
Personally, I just block catbox. Videos/Files on that platform have no source information so there's no point in viewing.
Catbox is an easy and fast way to upload an image and post a link here. I've used it dozens of times. Block it if you want, but seems pointless to me. We use catbox on here a lot to post a pic easily and quickly.
It is easy. I block it because, for me, it's slow, but more importantly it's a dead end of information. It provides a random video with no hint to where it came from or the surrounding context. When you watch a video on Catbox, you're invited to feel a rush of emotion, but not presented with any sort of fact trail to back it up. I appreciate the pleasure of emotions, but that's not what I'm personally looking for. Certainly when Q said to save everything metadata was implied.
