For those unaware, while it's obviously a completely different thing now, Bruce McLaren was one of the towering originators in this sport. The McLaren domination of the Can-Am was total, until a) he died in a horrible unnecessary testing crash and b) Porsche showed up*.
*(a) is important because as "unbeatable" as the 917 was, the McLarens were no slouch and it remains one of the greatest what-ifs ever, what if Bruce had been alive to try and meet the Porsche challenge?
