"Hitler’s insane creed made frequent reference to the need to establish for Nazi Germany its ‘Lebensraum’ or ‘living space’ in Eastern Europe and Russia. The inhabitants of these lands were to be either annihilated or reduced to slavery in the service of the ‘new order’."

This is an oft-repeated mis-translation of Hitler's words, avoiding the context. Hitler spoke of restoring Germany's borders which were redrawn by the Treaty of Versailles, leaving innocent German citizens living in countries they wanted nothing to do with...and vulnerable to terrorism and murder. This, incidentally, was why the German military marched into Poland, because Poland refused to stop murdering German citizens -- not because of expansionist plans on Hitler's part.
