As a former 36 year JW, you are correct. Most larger hospitals even have a specific department that just deal with JW’s. There are several options for non-blood treatment including Autologous Blood Donation which is the process of donating your own blood before a procedure. All you have to tell the hospital is that your religious beliefs no longer align with getting Blood Transfusions. They have to comply. Witnesses actually carry a power of attorney in their wallet that states what they will and will not accept. You can have your attorney make one up for yourself and you can give a copy to all your doctors.
