I think patents on drug and medical things are fine, so long as the process is improved. Things like monocolonal tech wouldn't have been invented otherwise and there wouldn't be a motivation to develop them in the first place. It just wouldn't be possible to recoup development costs.
Just removing liability shields would take care of most of the issue and drug testing procedures that aren't funded by the companies having things tested. Removing big pharma influence from medical education and shifting it back to natural remedies and health focused care would about take care of the rest. If natural remedy doesn't exist for something, then there would be HUGE incentive to pour money into where it would legitimately be needed because there'd be fewer areas where such products would be needed.
