He opposed both forms of socialism: Communism and Fascism, and he asked to be part of the D-Day landings. Wounded during the previous World War 1, he wanted to be part of the fight. June 6, his group of landing craft were moved off course by the English Channel waves. Once ashore, he rallied troops in his group to fight while walking the beach with a cane.
