I had a recent discussion with a doctor --- he said he can't prescribe (non prescription) supplements ------ EVEN IF THEY WORK BETTER.
The US medical system is fucked ---- end drug patents ----- the government pays for the research anyway.
He can't "prescribe" them, as in write a prescription and have a pharmacy fill it, but he can certainly give you a list of what supplements to take and you buy them and take them. That's what my doctor did.
And the list - with the doctor's name and practice address on it - was upheld as a medical deduction under IRS audit.
Get a new doctor.
