When they sneak the real candidate in there won’t be time to get them on the ballots so they’ll tell dems to write them in. This will be the reason for months of reading the write in candidate. Never happened before, dumbocrats will be convinced nothing nefarious is happening and excuse it away like everything else.
The good news is that if you can figure it out and see this scenario playing out then the white hats have already thought of this scenario and have countermeasures in place.

Worst case scenario: election results are inconclusive (no 270 electors for either candidate) so it invokes the 12th Amendment. The House directly elects the president with 1 vote per state.
