That the bible is the word of God? I didn't know the Catholics were at war with the scriptures I knew they didn't follow it very close but this is new. I'll have to research this topic more.
What is your "bible"? Is it like the Mormons with Doctrines and Covenants, The pearl of great price, and the book of Mormon?
You see all discussions are moot from here on out if you don't recognize the bible as the word of God. Because there is no basis for truth. We have to start with establishing God is all powerful and He is able to preserve His word. If you don't believe that you have free reign to make up whatever you want and say, "this here is truth." Kind of like the DEI society we live in today. "Gender is a social construct."
350 AD Codex Vaticanus is oldest New Testament having the 27 books of the NT that were general accepted by the Catholic Church's of the Roman Empire.
Series of councils at Rome, Carthage, and Hippo convened by Pope Damasus and Catholic Bishops finalize the list in 382, 393 and 397 AD after vetting and weeding out false books like the Acts of Paul, gnostic gospel of Thomas etc.
The Bible is a Catholic book, it is our gift the world. You're welcome.
Augustine of Hippo. But I would not believe in the Gospel, had not the authority of the Catholic Church already moved me.
So the Catholic "Bible" doesn't have the book of Acts? Acts was written by Luke not Paul. And the gospel of Thomas is easily proven as heresy.
And if it is the bible that is a "gift" why do you disparage it when I quote scripture?
Catholicism's problem is that you have to defend men when anyone asks a question, I only have to defend God Jesus and the Holy Spirit. He doesn't have one flaw.
“These men [heretics], however, deceive the people by the very Scriptures, that they may receive honors and praises at their hand, and that men may not turn to the truth…And to whom do they sell them, but to the devil? For if the Church be Christ’s sole and only one, who is it that carries off whatever is cut away from it, but that lion that roars and goes about, ‘seeking whom he may devour’ (1 Pet. 5:8)? Woe to them that are cut off from the Church! As for Her, She will remain entire. The Lord has made a scourge of small cords, and is admonishing them [heretics] to change themselves and be no longer traffickers; for if they will not change, they shall at the end hear it said, ‘Bind ye these men’s hands and feet, and cast them forth into outer darkness’ (Matt. 22:13).” - St. Augustine, “Tractate 10 on the Gospel of John” (§8)
You don't even really know where the Bible comes from or how the various NT books were compiled into the canon we have today. *le sigh, gg ez.
I'm currently reading a book called The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel and it's very good so yes I do understand (up to page 99). I also have commentary's of scripture from the 1830's which give detail explanations of the Codex Montefortii and Codex Vaticanus, and Codex Sinaiticus. But I don't really think me saying anything to you is of benefit to you or me is it?

You believe the Pope. I believe God.
