To be more specific, a Death Note is tool used by death gods, the Japanese equivalent to the Grim Reaper, to "reap" the living. The user must write the name of their target while picturing the target's face in their mind. They can give further directions to dictate how the target will die, but if no further directions are given, or if the directions cannot be followed by the target, the target will die of a heart attack forty seconds after the user has stopped writing. The death god, Ryuk in this case, can only be seen by those who have touched his Death Note. It was a pretty good psychological thriller, so long as you stick to the Japanese productions, and stay away from the cash grab that netflix made a few years ago.
