It absolutely is. And if our military doesn’t have a defense against it (re small surveillance and suicide drones) then our soldiers are going to be in serious trouble. Early countermeasures against drone technology consisted of signal and electronic jamming but from the video evidence put out by the Russians in Ukraine, they seem to have found a workaround for that. An interview with former Blackwater CEO Erik Prince said that the current best defense against suicide drones are net systems (steel cable, I’m assuming - maybe even something like chicken wire fencing?).
Imagine that sometime in the near future an Army division that’ll have a Drone Battalion who’ll have tens of thousands of miniature surveillance and suicide drones at their disposal, powered mostly by AI, that’ll be unleashed against an enemy that has mostly conventional weapons. That enemy will lose. Eventually we’ll end up with a Drone vs. Drone war, the first Robotic War.
You nailed it spot on. Some sort of man portable synthetic wide aperture radar system and an improved shotgun comes to mind. Very difficult threat to counter. Like IEDs.
It is a war of attrition against the US by the US. Putin sends in C grade units to do limited damage.
He is probably running it like how Trump runs his campaigns. Let everyone else spend massive amounts of money to only talk about him, or send weapons. While he does as little as he can to induce the outcome he wants. He wins win the US runs out of money to fund the war, or when Trump gets back into office.
Drone warfare is the game changer.
