It was England until 1600 when the East India Trading Company established "territories" in Africa. If you read the "English Constitution" you'll see it looks a lot like ours, the founding fathers knew the "English Constitution" was what they wanted, NOT the British.Also, our legal system is based on "English Common Law" which does not exist today in "Britain". From 1600 to now they have been experiencing the "slow creep" of "British" rule which looks nothing like "English" rule.
